Liquefaction Cups for Fast Liquefaction of Human Semen

LiquiSem Cup

Improve Accuracy and Turnaround Time of Semen Analysis

Male fertility testing is performed on liquefied semen. Under standard conditions, human semen may take an hour or more to liquefy. However, with the specially formulated, enzyme coated Liquefaction Cups, most samples will liquefy within 2 or 3 minutes.

Specimen Requirement

A freshly obtained ejaculate should be used for diagnostic evaluation. For best results, 2 ml of ejaculate should be used. However, if part of the sample is to be used for therapeutic procedures, the ejaculate may be split but no less than 1/2 ml should be reserved for liquefaction and diagnostic evaluation.

If no sample needs to be reserved for therapy, the sample may be collected by masturbation directly into the Liquefaction Cup. Otherwise a non-spermicidal condom may be used and an aliquot of the ejaculate immediately transferred to the Liquefaction Cup.

Directions for Use

Step 1: Collect semen by masturbation directly into the Liquefaction Cup or using a non-spermicidal condom and transferring at least 1/2 ml into the Liquefaction Cup.

Step 2: Place the lid on the Liquefaction Cup and swirl cup 10 times. Allow semen to liquefy for 15 minutes, but not longer than one hour. Less viscous samples may require less than 15 minutes for liquefaction and it is up to the discretion of the technician to determine if adequate liquefaction has occurred.

Step 3: Swirl the sample in the Liquefaction Cup prior to testing.
