How the VasMARQ
Home Diagnostic Screening Test Works

The VasMARQ
Diagnostic Screening Test is an easy to use screening test to monitor
your sperm concentration after vasectomy. Sperm concentration is measured
in millions of sperm per milliliter of ejaculate (million/mL).
The VasMARQ
Home Diagnostic Screening Test works by staining any sperm cells in the
semen sample to produce a color. The intensity of this color is then compared
to a color reference on the VasMARQ test cassette (see Test Kit Contents)
to determine sperm concentration.
The color comparison
will tell you whether the sperm concentration in the test sample is below
0.5 million/mL (negative test) or above 0.5 million/mL (positive test).
The World Health Organization standard for a fertile male is above 20
million/mL.
The VasMARQ
Home Diagnostic Screening Test should be performed on least two separate
semen samples. The second sample should be collected at least 7, but not
more than 10, days after the first sample.
The VasMARQ
Home Diagnostic Screening Test kit contains everything you need to collect
and test two separate semen samples.
Your physician may
also recommend that an additional VasMARQ test be performed 6 months
after your vasectomy. In a few cases, the sperm passage (vas deferens)
which was cut during vasectomy may reconnect (recanalization) during the
6 months following vasectomy.
